Paver Driveway Installation & Repair in Los Angeles

Built to carry weight for decades, not to crack in five years.

Interlocking paver driveways engineered for vehicle loads. Full excavation, deep compacted base, and units rated for vehicular traffic. When a section settles or stains, individual pavers lift and reset, no patch that never matches.

What is different about a paver driveway compared with a paver patio?

The base. A patio carries people; a driveway carries a vehicle that weighs two tons and turns its wheels while stationary, which grinds at the surface. That means a deeper compacted base, compacted in multiple lifts rather than one, and a thicker paver unit rated for vehicular traffic. Everything else, excavation, grading, joint sand, polymeric sealing, follows the same sequence as a patio. If a contractor quotes your driveway and your patio at the same base depth, they have either not read the job or they are planning to underbuild it. The other real difference is the apron where your driveway meets the street: that section touches the public right of way and usually needs a permit, which is worth confirming before work starts rather than after.

Every quote is built line by line after someone walks your property, so there is no square-foot rate on this page that would turn out to be wrong for your yard. Get a free on-site estimate and we will bring real turf and paver samples with us.

NexGen Remodeling designs and installs interlocking paver driveways across Los Angeles County, the San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita, and Ventura County. A driveway is the hardest-working surface on most properties and the one where cutting corners shows fastest. Poured concrete driveways in Southern California typically crack within five to ten years, because a rigid slab has nowhere to go when heat cycles expand it and seismic movement shifts the ground beneath it. An interlocking paver system is built to move slightly instead: the units flex with the ground, the joints absorb the movement, and when something does go wrong you lift the affected pavers and reset them rather than replacing a whole slab and living with a patch that never colour-matches. Our driveway installations include full excavation to depth, grading that moves water away from the structure, compacted base rock built up in lifts at driveway depth, edge restraint, then vehicular-rated pavers, joint sand and polymeric sealing. We also repair and re-lay existing paver driveways that were built on an inadequate base, which is the most common failure we get called to look at. NexGen is licensed (CSLB #1127800), insured and bonded, and every project carries a 2-year workmanship warranty.

Why Concrete Driveways Fail in Southern California

  • A rigid slab cannot flex, heat cycles and ground movement crack it
  • Most SoCal concrete driveways crack within 5 to 10 years
  • A cracked slab can only be patched or fully replaced
  • Patches never colour-match the original pour
  • Oil stains soak into concrete and stay there
  • Full replacement means demolishing and hauling the entire slab

Why Pavers Hold Up

  • Units flex with ground movement instead of cracking
  • A damaged or stained paver lifts out and is replaced individually
  • Permeable joints let water through rather than sheeting it away
  • Expect 30 to 50 years from a correctly built paver driveway
  • Repairs are localised and invisible when done properly
  • Colour and pattern chosen to match the house, not the batch plant

Common Questions

Deeper than a patio, and the exact figure depends on your soil and what you park on it. Rather than quote a number that sounds authoritative on a web page, the useful thing is to ask any contractor bidding your job what depth they are using on your specific lot, how many lifts they compact it in, and why that depth. On expansive soil, common in Simi Valley and parts of the San Gabriel Valley, the answer should be noticeably deeper than on the well-draining sandy ground in Oxnard. A contractor who gives the same base depth for every job in Southern California is quoting from a template rather than from your property. This is the single most important thing separating a driveway that lasts thirty years from one that ruts in three, and it is entirely invisible once the pavers are down, which is exactly why it gets cut.
