What We See in Los Angeles

Los Angeles is the only service area where telling us the city still does not tell us much about the project. A flat 1940s lot near Westchester is a completely different job from a hillside property above Sunset, even though both addresses say Los Angeles. Our project managers have learned to look at the driveway, side-yard width and elevation almost immediately because those three things often determine how we demolish and move material.

We also run into a lot of yards that have been remodeled three or four times already, so finding buried concrete, old irrigation and strange grade changes is normal here. Some of our most interesting LA projects are not the largest ones; they are the properties where we have to figure out how to get a clean modern backyard out of a space that was never originally planned as one. Los Angeles keeps our crews from ever assuming that the next job will be like the last one.
